Week 9 Thursday Night Football Promos and Picks
Week 9 Thursday Night Football odds have the Houston Texans getting two points as road underdogs against the New York Jets. The Jets have lost five in a row and seem to hit a new bottom every week.
The Texans, a sexy preseason Super Bowl pick, have injury issues and have yet to look like the dominant team we thought they’d be in 2024.

Here are two picks for tonight’s Thursday Night Football game.
Joe Mixon Over 22.5 Receiving Yards (FanDuel)
The Jets are favored because the Texans are without wide receivers Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. The Texans offense still has RB Joe Mixon.
Mixon is more than capable of catching passes and exceeded this receiving total in three of his five games. Last week against Indianapolis, Mixon caught four passes for 32 yards.
The Jets must limit Mixon’s rushing yards to win this game. In response, Houston will want to get the ball in the hands of their best offensive weapon any way they can, so look for Mixon to get at least six targets tonight, giving him ample opportunity to gain receiving yards.

First Half Total Under 20.5 (bet365)
Aaron Rodgers and company are slow starters, averaging 10.8 first-half points per game. On the other hand, the Texans average 14 first-half points, but I don’t expect a lot early as they test the Jets’ rush defense.
The Texans’ defense also allows an average of only 9.8 points per first half. The Jets can’t run the ball. They will try to summon the Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams magic early, knowing their best chance is to get up early and force Houston into passing scenarios without Diggs or Collins.
The Jets passing game hasn’t clicked all season, and I don’t expect it to against a Houston defense that ranks third in the NFL against the pass. The first half will be a slugfest of multiple stalled drives and a possible turnover or two.
