Weekly Penguins Camp Schedule; Sullivan Makes Change; Cuts Looming

NHL Season, Pittsburgh Penguins Practice Facility UPMC Lemieux Complex

The good news and bad news regarding the Pittsburgh Penguins schedule change for Monday is that the pair of player groups will finish practice before noon.

The Penguins changed their Monday practice schedule so that Group 1 and Group 2 would practice simultaneously on the two rinks at the UPMC Lemieux Complex from 10 a.m. to 11:30. The Penguins’ release did not list a scrimmage. In fact, this week’s schedule does not include any scrimmages.

The original schedule called for Group 2 to practice after Group 1.

The Penguins expect more cuts today or tomorrow as the team pares to just two groups, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins begin their training camp this week and their preseason schedule one week from Tuesday. If history holds, the team will send many of the prospects not in competition for a roster spot and the players on AHL contracts to the WBS Penguins camp with new coach Kirk MacDonald.

The Penguins made their first round of cuts Saturday, sending six players back to their junior camps. The only notable cut was quickly sending 2023 third-round pick Emil Pieniniemi to his new junior team, the Kingston Frontenacs.
