You want to be the GM. Oh, just admit it, you want to be in charge of the next Pittsburgh Penguins trade and transactions. And now you’ll have the chance to play with other fans to negotiate the perfect Penguins trade, manage the roster with buyouts, deal with salary cap restraints, and call up prospects.

Our friends at Puckpedia.com yesterday launched their fan GM pages. Go for it here.

PHN invites our readers to have fun and post your results in the comments section. Of course, since the GM tool allows you to make any trade, you can pretend you’re dealing with Peter Chiarelli and rob your opponent blind, or you can try to keep it balanced.

If you need our help, our staff including PHN Editor-in-Chief Dan Kingerski will be checking the comments for good ideas or to provide requested input on trades. Something tells us Dan won’t have a problem playing Devils Advocate for you.

We also encourage conversation and negotiation. You do it on Twitter, so you can do it here, too. You can get started with the PHN Penguins trade bait list and the analysis of available top-six wingers. And Dan had a little fun with the tool yesterday, too.

“It was a tough call. Will Detroit give up (Andreas) Athanasiou or Minnesota give up (Jason) Zucker without the Penguins first-round pick? I don’t think they would,” Kingerski said. “I went with Zucker because he perfectly fits the Penguins speed and physicality, and Minnesota GM Bill Guerin championed Adam Johnson, who was undrafted.”

The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 24. Have fun.
