2023 Penguins Training Camp Schedule & Roster
The 2023 Pittsburgh Penguins training camp schedule has been released, and the most eagerly anticipated Penguins season in years will begin five months after the Penguins’ last regular-season game and the end of their 16-year playoff streak.
From new Penguins president of hockey operations/GM Kyle Dubas to reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson, the Penguins’ offseason has been full of change.
Training camp begins Thursday at the UPMC Lemieux Complex in Cranberry. All practices are open to the public.
The roster is overflowing, with 58 players in camp. In addition to the NHL contract players such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Karlsson, the team invited forwards Austin Wagner, Peter Abbandonato, and Colin White, as well as defensemen Mark Pysyk and Libor Hajek, on professional tryouts.
The Penguins roster also includes all of their three first-round draft picks since 2019. Sam Poulin (2019), Owen Pickering (2022), and Brayden Yager (2023) will attend. Five undrafted free agents who appeared with the Penguins at the Prospects Challenge received a camp invite: Forwards Evan Veirling, Avery Hayes, Matthew Soto, defenseman Andre Anania, and goalie Michael Simpson.
Justin Lee and Jagger Joshua were collegiate free agents who played several games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins late last season.
*Jake Guentzel, Will Butcher, and Pickering are on the injured list. Guentzel will miss at least the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
