Dan’s Daily: Galchenyuk Gets Plea Deal; Build Statue to Mike Lange

Pittsburgh Penguins Alex Galchenyuk

Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dave Molinari had a solid suggestion that many readers got behind Monday. Dave says it’s time to build a statue or hang a banner for Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Penguins broadcaster Mike Lange, and do it now while everyone can participate in the celebration. Also in the Daily, most charges against Alex Galchenyuk were dropped in exchange for a guilty plea on one lesser charge. Alex Chiasson inked a PTO with the Bruins. ESPN believes the Penguins’ stock is up, while the Capitals’ stock went down. And if you missed it, we got a first look at Erik Karlsson in Penguins gear.

And a quick note before we run down the hockey must-reads: THANK YOU to everyone. The Sports Now group (PHN, Steelers Now, Pittsburgh Baseball Now) is getting about 600,000 unique views per week. I think we need to have a party soon!

How about a public Q&A with drinks and apps at a local establishment? My biggest fear, if we do something, is that like 10 people show up. Drop me a note in the comments.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Mr. Dave Molinari had a damn fine suggestion. Honor Mike Lange in a big way, and do it while everyone can enjoy it. Also, the Penguins preseason is going to mean something. Penguins notebook.

Steelers Now:

Buckle up…

Kwon Alexander blasted the NFL and is appealing his fine.

The 49ers signed a former Steelers WR.

And a judge has ordered the arrest of Antonio Brown.

And some real Steelers analysis — Dan Moore Jr. has caught Mike Tomlin’s eye, and who else is rising on the Steelers’ depth chart.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

Saturday is going to be a BIG day in Double-A Altoona. The Pirates promoted fire-balling top prospect Paul Skenes.

The Buccos brought the sticks. They bombed the Cardinals 11-1, and Joshua Palacios had a day. Get the quickie Pirates recap.

With Skenes coming to Altoona, how are the rest of the 2023 draftees doing? The latest on the Pirates’ prospects.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Montreal Hockey Now: It’s been a turbulent few seasons for the Habs. New GM, new president, roster turnover. They traded Jeff Petry, traded for Jeff Petry, and traded Jeff Petry. Marc Dumont grades GM Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens trades.

Sportsnet: Five of the charges against Alex Galchenyuk were dropped. He pled guilty to a charge of threatening. And hopefully, it’s over for everyone.

ESPN+ ($): Stock up, stock down. Greg Wyshinski feels the Penguins are up, but bagged Tristan Jarry. And he felt the Capitals continued to tumble.

Boston Hockey Now: A solid use of the PTO — The Bruins signed Alex Chiasson.

Carolina Hockey Now: It will be a big year for Carolina. After this season, age will become a factor in key positions (Aho and Svechnikov notwithstanding). The three Carolina Hurricanes with the most to prove.

I’m sorry for missing it on Twitter. PHN probably should have done a full story on this — but it’s a few days old. Our first look at Erik Karlsson in Pittsburgh Penguins gear.
