Pittsburgh Penguins, Bryan Rust

The Pittsburgh Penguins were down to just one person on their daily injured list. That number increased to two on Saturday as Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Bryan Rust suffered a lower-body injury and will not play on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.

Sullivan said Rust suffered the injury during warmups before the Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 1-0 at UBS Arena.

Rust left warmups early, within the first few minutes on Friday. Evan Rodrigues filled Rust’s spot on the Penguins top line with Sidney Crosby.

Sullivan also said Rust is still being evaluated. His status on Saturday is out, but his status for the Penguins upcoming western Canada road trip is uncertain.

Bryan Rust, 29, has nine points (2-7-9) in 12 games this season. He is in the final year of his four-year deal which carries a $3.5 million AAV. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
