There It Is! Crosby Breaks Lemieux Record
Less than 24 hours after official scorers took away an assist that would have given Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby the franchise’s all-time assist record, Crosby left no doubt Sunday.
Early in the second period, Crosby dished a perfect backhand pass to Michael Bunting in the slot. Bunting one-timed the shot past New York Islanders goalie Magnus Hogberg at 1:36 of the second period.
It was Crosby’s 1034th career assist, all with the Penguins. With the apple, he surpassed all-time great and former Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead.
Crosby now ranks fourth all-time in assists with one team. He now trails his childhood idol Steve Yzerman (1063) by 29 assists. Ray Bourque is the all-time leader with 1111 assists with one team (Boston Bruins).

29 behind Yzerman, not 19.
Thanks for the catch.
Congrats again Sid!!! Amazing that we, the fans, live thru this HOF and all-time great player for our Penguins. Can’t take this era…decades….for granted, cause we may never see these accomplishments again in Pittsburgh.
