Gaudreau Brothers Will be Laid to Rest; Service Information
It has been a hard couple of weeks for hockey fans, especially those who were personally touched by Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, the effervescent brothers who were tragically killed Aug. 29 while riding bicycles along a rural road in New Jersey, the night before their sister’s wedding.
The pair were struck and killed by Sean Higgins, who remains in custody pending a pre-trial detention hearing, which was delayed until Sept. 13. He was charged with driving under the influence, two counts of death by auto, reckless driving, and charges related to having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Higgins attempted to overtake a vehicle on the right that had moved to the center of the two-lane road to pass the Gaudreaus safely.
Johnny Gaudreau, 31, was a popular NHL star and fan favorite in Calgary for nine seasons and the last two in Columbus. He played 763 NHL games, registering 743 points, including 243 goals. He also starred at Boston College before and was drafted by Calgary in the fourth round.
