Matt’s Net-Front Presence: Penguins Should Pursue Veteran Backup for Tristan Jarry

Published

on

Finally, some clarity with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ goaltending situation: Matt Murray is off to Ottawa and Tristan Jarry is the new anointed No. 1.

However, as I explain on my Net-Front Presence on Pittsburgh Sports Live, it might be too much of a risk to leave Jarry without some veteran backup as he takes over the top spot for a team with championship aspirations.

A lifelong hockey addict, Matt has been fortunate enough to make his career in his sport of choice, working in high school, juniors, college and the pros in various multimedia roles. Previous to joining PHN, Matt was a credentialed Penguins/NHL beat reporter from 2016-18, including coverage of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. He contributes commentary and analysis here in various forms.

I don’t know. I feel like they’ll be fine with Jarry Desmith. I guess I could see a mid-season deal…possibly. But, of anything, I’d rather see them stow a veteran (not Legace) in the minors.
