NFL Week 5 Sunday Night Football: Props and Promos

Sunday Night Football in NFL Week 5 has the Dallas Cowboys headed to Pittsburgh to play the Acrisure Stadium. Kickoff is 8:20 p.m. ET. The Steelers are -2.5 favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Both teams are banged up. A road win would give the Cowboys some much-needed positive juju. The Steelers want to keep the good times rolling into their AFC North schedule.

The standard is the standard—winning bets. Here’s how I’m betting on Sunday Night Football for NFL Week 5.

Dak Prescott Passing Yards 250+ (DraftKings)

The Indianapolis Colts found the recipe for beating the Pittsburgh Steelers—pass the ball early. Colts HC Shane Steichen and OC Jim Bob Cooter put the Steelers’ defense on its heels, running tempo and challenging Pittsburgh’s secondary over the top.

Scoring early takes the Steelers offense out of its comfort zone. They can’t run the ball like they want to. It also reduces the defense’s ability to rush the QB, create chaos, and cause turnovers.

Dallas also has the weakest rushing offense in the league, averaging 75.2 yards per game and 3.5 yards per rush. I don’t expect Dallas to find much running room or even try to run against a Steelers rushing defense that ranks in the top-five (third).

The Cowboys live and die on Dak Prescott’s arm, and he’s surpassed the 250 passing yards mark twice in four games. Given the injuries to Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence on the Dallas defense, they win the game by forcing a shootout.

Najee Harris Over 68.5 Rushing Yards (FanDuel)

Steelers fans are growing weary of Najee Harris. Last week, the former first-round pick gained only 19 yards on 13 carries. That’s not good enough.

But the Steelers are without Jaylen Warren and Cordarelle Patterson, so for better or worse, Harris will get the rock this Sunday night. And I like Harris to “get right” on Sunday night.

The Dallas run defense ranks 27th in the NFL, surrendering an average of 145.8 yards per game and 4.6 per carry.

Harris will get at least 69 yards simply because he’s the only healthy Steelers running back.

NFL Week 5 Odds: Play the Props and the Promos

I don’t know which team covers the spread in this NFL Week 5 matchup. After picking the Steelers as outright winners in Week 1 versus the Atlanta Falcons, I unsuccessfully faded them in Week 2 and Week 3.

In week 4, I thought the Steelers’ defense would handle the Colts’ young QB, Anthony Richardson, and the Colts offense. I couldn’t have been more wrong. So I’m not confident of a game side, but I am leaning the Cowboys here.

I like the Cowboys as +3 dogs or higher. Prescott and the Cowboys’ passing game isn’t a good matchup for the Steelers’ defense.
