Dan’s Daily: Fleury Cleared of COVID, Latest NHL Trade Chatter

pittsburgh penguins, Marc-Andre Fleury NHL trade

Let me stop you here. There are no great NHL trade rumors to be had today, except the Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, and Toronto Maple Leafs poking around for impact players. Could Henrik Lundqvist actually return to the NHL this season? Could Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry be the first Penguins goalie to shoot and score?

We’re one month from the NHL trade deadline, and I’m amazed how few “derbys” or “sweepstakes” for singular players there are. Usually, by now, we get to dash off a column or three about available targets who are confirmed to be available.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Tristan Jarry took a shot. The Pittsburgh Penguins goalie scored in the AHL, and he took a shot at the NHL level, too. Thursday, we made Jarry talk about it.

Speaking of Athletic (former) Penguins goalies

Vegas Hockey Now: Marc-Andre Fleury was placed in the COVID protocol on Wednesday. However, it was confirmed he suffered a false positive, and he started Friday night. Here’s the full Fleury story.

NHL Trade Talk…

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are on the prowl. GM Don Sweeney says so. President Cam Neely says so. And there were NINE scouts at the Garden. Yeah, Boston is on the NHL trade hunt.

Sportsnet: Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland says he wants an impact player, but it’s dollar-in, dollar-out for the Oilers.

That Canadian division is wild. I wish I had more time to watch.

Sportnet: The Toronto Maple Leafs are hunting a top-six winger.

The Rest…

NHL.com: John Tortorella said he didn’t bench Patrik Laine. He just played the other guys down the stretch.

I was shocked to see a national reporter or two suggest Tortorella is trying to get fired. That seemed…a bit much.

NBC: Karill Kaprizov is on fire. The rookie had a hat trick on Friday night. Here are the Kaprizov highlights

National Hockey Now

Philly: It’s time. It’s almost halfway in the NHL season, and Ryan Gilbert writes, it’s time for the Flyers to show what they’re made of.

NYI: The New York Islanders are rolling through the East Division. 1A goalie Ilya Sorokin is getting the job done.

San Jose: It was like a grizzly nature show. The San Jose Sharks feasted on the Anaheim Ducks, 6-0

There are no days of the week. There are game days and practice days. But enjoy your weekend—full coverage of Pittsburgh Penguins v. Buffalo Sabres tonight.
