The Pittsburgh Penguins made their big hire official Wednesday, announcing David Quinn as their new assistant coach. And we talked to people familiar with Quinn and his work in San Jose about what he’ll bring to the Penguins’ table. The NHL trade rumor has a new big name as Patrik Laine wants out of Columbus, and they’re trying to accommodate him. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Utah Yeti club could be good trade partners, but Max Domi is lobbying to re-sign. And the Florida Panthers had trouble getting out of Florida to Edmonton for Game 3 of the Stanely Cup Final.

A friend tipped me off to a feature in the Peacock app. They have all of the WWE content, including all of the old Wrestlemanias. So, of course, I had to check out Wrestlemania III, when 90,000 people packed into the old Pontiac Silverdome in 1987.

I put it on in the background while I did some work Wednesday after the Live Chat, but then a dark thought hit me–the staggering number of those people who were on top of the world that day but died far too early. By my count, 14 of them, from Rowdy Roddy Piper to Andre the Giant, Macho Man and Elizabeth, passed far too early.

But it was fun to watch. It tasted like childhood. Maybe I’ll try some later 1990s before I cancel the app.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It’s official. David Quinn joined coach Mike Sullivan’s staff as an assistant coach. Here’s the inside scoop on the pros and cons of hiring Quinn, including his recent guidance that helped his players win a pair of Norris Trophies. Here’s the full story about the new Penguins coach.

PHN Video: We had a good chat. We discuss Quinn and what it might mean for the Penguins on and off the ice, free agency, Jim Rutherford eyeing up Jake Guentzel, and a lot more in the Penguins Live Chat.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

TSN Insiders: Patrik Laine wants out of Columbus. After exiting the NHL’s Player Assistance Program, he’d like a fresh start elsewhere. The Insiders also update the squashed Mitch Marner drama and the potential for Nikolaj Ehlers to be traded. The NHL trade rumors around both have been much louder than the reality.

Sportsnet: The Penguins have selections No. 44 and 46. Sportsnet’s experts roll through the top 70 prospects, so here’s our first look at the players who will be available.

Elliotte Friedman also reported that the Carolina Hurricanes are working on a long-term extension for Jaccob Slavin. No deets yet.

Florida Hockey Now: The weather descended upon southern Florida, and flights were stranded. Reporter Colby Guy, who does a lot of work with Florida Hockey Now, was caught at the airport ALL day. Flights were canceled, and getting to Edmonton for Game 3 was a nightmare. The same thing happened to the Florida Panthers.

Toronto Sun: Multiple outlets had different versions of the story, as Max Domi is essentially campaigning to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also met with new coach Craig Berube to express that desire. It looks like Domi is doing his best to stay put.

New Jersey Hockey Now: They can smell it. The Devils fans can taste the opportunity to get Jacob Markstrom and make the team an immediate Stanley Cup contender. James Nichols rolls through the New Jersey Devils’ fan reaction to the latest trade rumors.
