Pittsburgh Penguins, Jake Guentzel, Sidney Crosby, NHL trade chatter

The Vegas Golden Knights went for the big get on the NHL trade market and still have room to keep going. The Pittsburgh Penguins are waiting for their big shoe to drop. The reportedly hoped-for Wednesday night Jake Guentzel trade has now been pushed into Thursday. We rolled over the top three landing spots for Guentzel and what he might fetch from those teams. The Edmonton Oilers made their move, the Florida Panthers added another Russian to the South Florida community, and the Colorado Avalanche swung an interesting deal.

Welcome to the most irrelevant Penguins-Capitals game since second term George W. Bush. It feels like the Steelers and Raiders of the early 1980s when both were in their twilights. You know, like the race for president. Hehe.

I’m flying to Boston early Friday morning. If Kyle Dubas speaks in Pittsburgh, Dave Molinari will have it. If Dubas goes to Boston, I’ll have it. We will be doing our annual NHL Trade Deadline Live Blog, including everything that goes down with analysis and comment. I’ll try to get set up and rolling by 9 a.m. Maybe some videos, too.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins make the playoffs AND sell-off? So, you’re saying there’s a chance? Here’s what the Penguins need.

Let’s get into it then — the top three landing spots and the potential returns of a Jake Guentzel trade.

Could a no-trade clause be holding up the works on the Penguins’ trade?

NHL Trade Deadline, News & National Hockey Now

Vegas Hockey Now: It took all evening. The trade. Then, the details. Then, more details. Noah Hanifin is headed to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers picked up Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators. Another Russian heads to Florida, the best team in the East, and here are the new Panthers’ lines.

Colorado Hockey Now: The Avalanche pulled a pair of trades. They picked up Casey Mittelstadt from Buffalo and Sean Walker from Philly and, in the process, shed Ryan Johansen. GM Chris MacFarland broke it all down for the Colorado Avalanche. Evan Rawal had several stories, including the GM’s reaction and scouts’ analysis of the deals. Check out all of his awesome work at Colorado Hockey Now.

Buffalo Hockey Now: Well now. The Sabres gave up Mittelstadt, but they got Bo Byram. Here’s the Buffalo Sabres trade.

Philly Hockey Meow: Picks and big names to demote. Jon Bailey digs in to grade the other side of the Flyers trade. There was the trade, a new contract for Nick Seeler, and lots of Philadelphia Flyefs news.

San Jose Hockey Now: The teal and white have been quiet leading to the deadline. The rebuilding Sharks haven’t sold yet. However, Anthony Duclair said he believes the Sharks will trade him.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston crowd really wants Elias Lindholm. To make that happen, the Guentzel trade is the key. Jimmy Murphy followed all angles, all day, for the Bruins trade hopes.

Sportsnet: The Oilers want that Stanley Cup badly. Connor McDavid needs it. Wednesday, the Oilers acquired Adam Henrique. They are all in.
