Dan’s Daily: Penguins Trade Talk, E-Rod Has ‘A Lot of Interest’

Published

on

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, Evan Rodrigues, Marcus Pettersson

We’re just a week away from the Pittsburgh Penguins rookie camp and not much further away from training camp. Dave Molinari dropped a little bombshell that Jason Zucker was part of trade discussions with a rival Metro Division team, and Dave explained why the Penguins trade fell apart. The Montreal Canadiens moved ahead with signing Kirby Dach but then admitted they’re working the NHL trade market to move out salary. Elliotte Friedman reported a lot of interest in Evan Rodrigues and named a new suitor who could sign him to flip him at the trade deadline.

On Wednesday, the Sports Now Group welcomed wild child and hella fun writer Hunter Homistek to Steelers Now, top Montreal scribe Marc Dumont to Montreal Hockey Now, and we set up a couple of interviews for additional markets. I very much appreciated Hunter’s and Marc’s public compliments of our management and vision.

And…the new platform is almost here! We began training and transferring a few sites yesterday. The new platform means your PHN+ subscription will give you access to ALL of the Hockey Now sites and their subscription content. AND you’ll have access to Steelers Now and Pittsburgh Baseball Now, both ad-free and their subscription content. BUT WAIT, there’s more! Our app is on the way. You’ll be able to configure it for the teams, sports, and breaking news you want. Our national homepage will be updated with the top stories in real time, and you’ll have a daily newsletter instead of many emails per day.

Join this band of merry rebels here.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Sports Now PGH

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Here’s the little bombshell. The Penguins had an offer for Jason Zucker on the NHL trade market but declined. It was a Metro Division team, too. Here’s the full story on the Pittsburgh Penguins trade decline.

The Penguins will play a league-leading 15 games on national TV. Either the league abandoned the Hulu debacle or will announce them later. For now, here’s the Penguins TV schedule.

Steelers Now: Whose jersey should be retired next? Steelers news.

Much was made of the “clerical error” that made Mason Rudolph the no. 2 QB. Then those NFL trade rumors swirled.

Homistek dropped the best column I’ve seen in a while. So, what happens if Mitch Trubisky plays … well? Steelers QB question.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: It was BAD. It was so, so bad at PNC Park. The Mets swept the Pirates in a doubleheader. Johan Oviedo walked five of 11 batters. The Pirates were shut out. Blown out. And this (expletive deleted) is embarrassing for us and should be for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

NHL Trade Talk, News, and National Hockey Now:

Philly Hockey Now: Was it the Flyers who tried to acquire Jason Zucker? Can you imagine a Penguins – Flyers trade?

Montreal Hockey Now: Cue the NHL trade rumors. Kirby Dach is signed. Montreal is $10 million over the cap. Even after Carey Price goes on LTIR, Montreal has just a few hundred thousand of cap space left. And in the press conference, GM Kent Hughes admitted the Montreal Canadiens are talking trades.

Sportsnet 32 Thoughts Podcast: Elliotte Friedman has the scoop on Evan Rodrigues and his choices.

Tim Stutzle is getting PAID. The Senators’ 20-year-old kiddo signed an eight-year deal worth $66.8 million. It seems a bit early to pay a kid that money, but they did.

Boston Hockey Now: Craig Smith was also the target of NHL trade chatter, but he’s still a Boston Bruin … for how long?

Washington Hockey Now: Hendrix Lapierre hit the gym this summer, but maybe the prospect hit it too hard. The Capitals told Lapierre to chill out. Washington Capitals prospects.
