Dan’s Daily Links: Price for Zuccarello, Muzzin & CBA Update
There will not be a World Cup of Hockey in 2020. Both the NHL and NHLPA agreed they didn’t have enough time to properly plan it. That is not true but anytime those two sides agree on anything, it gives hope. Perhaps we won’t have a lockout. Also, the price on Jake Muzzin, who was linked to the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this season has been revealed, as has the price tag for Mats Zuccarello.
What will LA Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin cost? A ton. Darren Dreger dropped the info in a radio spot (Nichols on Hockey)
Elliotte Friedman did the same regarding Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes. (Nichols on Hockey)The Penguins no longer need Muzzin. Who knew a kid-for-kid swap–Pettersson for Sprong–would stabilize the Penguins defense to this degree? Zuccarello only fits the Penguins if they keep Derick Brassard.
This is my favorite story of the day–Dougie Hamilton returns to Calgary today. He faced the media yesterday and he’ll do so again today. The poor guy was the victim of a media firestorm leading up to the NHL Draft. Sometimes the communal nature of hockey can be like a garbage disposal for someone’s reputation if they’re not one of the boys. (Sportsnet)
A stick tap to our old friend–Spector’s Hockey. Lyle Richardson is one of those hardworking hockey writers who was part of the original internet explosion. He’s still kicking out common sense commentary. Lyle now has a running CBA Update– (Spector’s Hockey)
Penguins coach Mike Sullivan threw down a stern warning to his team before they departed for the bye week (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)
It is not hard to extrapolate to whom he may have pointed when he dropped that line–“everyone has to buy-in.” At least one of those players is very popular.
They’re getting excited in Vancouver. I know many of you watch the late games–Vancouver is getting to be fun. Elias Pettersson is back (The Province)
On the other hand, Detroit is frustrated. Their first-half respectability was a bit of a surprise. Will they shop to add or sell? (Detroit Free Press)
Quick note–PHN will be open and at full steam this week but publishing times my vary, as we’ll be doing some in-depth pieces and film studies and video work.
