CRANBERRY, PA–

1:21 p.m.: Mike Sullivan was clear, “I don’t think line combinations had anything to do with what happened last night. Sullivan was focused on the mental approach. The rest of the locker room had differing opinions on causes.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now will provide additional locker room coverage to its subscribers on our private Patreon page. Kris Letang, Carl Hagelin, and Matt Hunwick weighed in on the team’s desire to play offense but lack of defensive zone coverage.

Hunwick alluded to “adjustments”, as did his defense partner Jamie Oleksiak. By the way, Oleksiak gave a well detailed description of the Chara fight. “He was out there for like two minutes before that, so maybe that worked out in my favor.”

Casey DeSmith is just happy to be alive. The smile and near laugh are never far. On getting pulled last night:

“It gets easier the more it happens,” he said with a smile.

12:34 p.m.: The Penguins second power-play unit is working against the top PK unit. Letang is at the point with Maatta, Guentzel, Sheary, and Brassard are the rest.

Chad Ruhwedel is subbing in on the top PK unit.

12:30 p.m.: The Penguins are on the ice at the Lemieux complex. Last night, they…well, you know about last night. If you want the analysis of the Penguins current situation, Dan Kingerski laid it out in good and bad terms.

For the anti-Matt Hunwick crowd, Chad Ruhwedel took early drills beside Sergei Gonchar, so don’t hold your breath to see him in the lineup tomorrow.

Everyone else it at practice. Matt Murray skated this morning, on his own.
