Dan’s Daily: Rangers Can Chase Big Trade, Evander Kane Reaction

Get used to Evander Kane being in the headlines. Whether or not you like the story, and based on comments I’ve received, there is plenty of irritation, it’s probably the most important story beyond COVID postponements. Kane cleared waivers on Sunday, and the battle begins. The New York Rangers will be linked to John Klingberg and every big name on the NHL trade market. The Pittsburgh Penguins will have one more hurdle, but they’re on the cusp of finally getting a look at their real team.

Also–NY Post scribe Larry Brooks took a bit of a poke at Tristan Jarry just after setting the table for the NHL trade rumors. Patrick Roy got his interview in Montreal.

NY: The Rangers are tied atop the Metro Division, five points ahead of the Penguins, but the Penguins have two in hand on NY. Brooks writes they will be linked to John Klingberg and everyone else. He also questioned if the Penguins should rest easy on Jarry.

I get the “wondering” about his future playoff performance but realize the Penguins are merely fighting for a playoff spot without Jarry. The recent aggression with his paddle near the crease and after the whistle may tell you he’s a more confident cat, too.

PHN+: “It’s going to be fun to see what we’ve got…” Bryan Rust and Kris Letang assessed the team and looked forward to the very soon moment when we get to see the real Pittsburgh Penguins.

It feels like I worked all weekend but wrote only five stories. Sorry! More coming. Also, big announcement Monday morning for one of our NHN sites!

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Vegas: Relive Marc-Andre Fleury’s best moments with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Montreal Hockey Now: Patrick Roy interviewed for the open GM job with the Montreal Canadiens.

San Jose Hockey Now: The San Jose Sharks AHL coach talked exclusively with our Sheng Peng about Evander Kane’s AHL tenure. Kane cleared waivers and his $49 million contract, but Kane will file a grievance against the San Jose Sharks.

NYI: The Islanders, like Ross and Rachel, are on a break. However, our Stefen Rosner writes: the New York Islanders must avoid Evander Kane.

Detroit: Another team behind the Penguins in the wild-card chase, the Detroit Red Wings earned a point, but–uh oh–they lost Dylan Larkin.

Vancouver: Revisiting five (too) early predictions, Rob Simpson realizes his takes were spot on until changes hit the Vancouver Canucks.

NHL.com: The NHL trade rumors were jolted on Friday by the revelation that John Klingberg may want out of Dallas. He clarified the story-he wants to stay in Dallas and wants a contract. However, he’s getting a bit frustrated with negotiations.Â
