Dan’s Daily: Dubas’ Shaping Penguins’ FO, Preds Looking for Trades

Pittsburgh Penguins, Jake Guentzel

Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas had a fun day Wednesday. He gave a commencement address in Ontario, where he talked about getting fired, and he began to shape the Penguins’ front office. The Florida Panthers’ injury issues were deep, significant, and they will carry into next season. Some troubling news as Montreal Canadiens legend Henri Richard died with Stage 3 CTE. The Nashville Predators are scouring the NHL trade market. And the Vegas Golden Knights are planning one hell of a parade Saturday.

And I mean, the parade is going to be HUGE. It will close down the Strip in both directions.

I may have taken an evening to let off a little steam. No, no one was elbowed on the Strip, and no young families were scolded for thinking this was their little neighborhood in Kansas where you can hold hands and walk four-wide without care. Some people see Jesus in their toast or the Virgin Mary on a potato chip, but C’mon, you have to see Kyle from South Park in this margarita. I thought Stan originally, but definitely Kyle.

Let’s get to the hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: What kind of player can the Penguins get at No. 14? Dave Molinari looked at the last decade, who was drafted, and who was available. It’s a really good read — Penguins Draft.

Dubas officially hired his former and again current lieutenant Jason Spezza as assistant GM.

And what does that hiring mean? Will Teddy Blueger and Phil Kessel’s names be on the Cup? And what’s with the whinging about top-shelf goalies not being good enough for the Penguins? Check out the latest one-timers with our Penguins analysis.

TSN: Kyle Dubas gave the commencement at Brock University and had to make a few cracks about what it’s like to get fired.

Steelers Now:

Darnell Washington is turning heads. We’ve gone from OTAs to Steelers mini-camp.

Next week we go from mini-camp to pre-camp. After pre-camp, we’ll go summer camp. Then to training camp.

TE Pat Friermuth is dealing with an injury.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

D’oh. Get the important details here — The Buccos’ bullpen imploded, and Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Henry Davis goes yard for the first time in Triple-A — get the latest Pirates prospect Watch.

NHL News, Stanley Cup Wrap, & National Hockey Now:

Nashville Hockey Now: GM Barry Trotz is looking for some partners in the NHL trade market.

Vegas Hockey Now: This parade is going to be epic. Vegas Golden Knights parade.

Our final breakdown of the season — my live video and analysis after the Vegas Golden Knights Cup win.

And lastly, the term Misfits should apply to all of the Golden Knights. Adin Hill? Jack Eichel? Bounced, tossed, or otherwise … a misfit. It’s time to allow the next generation of Golden Knights Misfits.

Oh, I upset some lady on Facebook something terrible with that column. I think it is a logical opinion, and the Golden Knights’ true identity, but that term for some is…reserved.

Florida Hockey Now: Matthew Tkachuk is one of several players who suffered significant maladies. Get the full extent of the Panthers’ injuries.

The Panthers mourned the end of their incredible run. They shouldn’t have made the playoffs, but they were within reach of the Stanley Cup. It was an amazing ride for those Florida Panthers.

The rest…

TSN: Patrick Roy wants to return to the NHL but says there is zero interest.

Montreal Hockey Now: Here’s one clear angle of what’s happening in Ottawa. One of the Canadien’s minority owners is buying the Senators. What it means for Ottawa and the Montreal Canadiens.

Boston Hockey Now: The buyout window is about to open. Will the Boston Bruins use it on Mike Reilly?

Philly Hockey Now: Early qualifying offers for some. No offers are coming for others, including Keifer Bellows. The Philadelphia Flyers are getting to work.

NY Post: Legend Henri Richard died with Stage 3 CTE, according to family.
