PIttsburgh Penguins, Chad Ruhwedel

TORONTO — The Pittsburgh Penguins roster shuffle occurred just before warmups on Saturday. The team activated defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from the injured list. He took warmups.

Ruhwedel was not in the lineup Saturday when the Penguins faced the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.

The defenseman has one assist in 15 games this season. He left the Nov. 19 game against the Vegas Golden Knights after playing over 10 minutes of the Penguins 3-0 shutout at PPG Paints Arena.

Austin Matthews

The Penguins got a little bit of a break Saturday. Toronto’s top center, Auston Matthews, missed the game due to the flu. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first reported that it was a possibility and confirmed when Matthews did not take warmups.

Matthews leads the NHL with 23 goals. The American center also has 12 assists in 27 games.
