Dan’s Daily: Penguins Bad Luck, Gudbranson Fight, NHL Trade Talk

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, Erik Gudbranson

Calgary Flames defenseman Erik Gudbranson and New York Islanders forward Russ Johnston dropped the gloves late Saturday night, and it was a throwback fight. Gudbranson also scored in the Flames win, as the Islanders lost…again. The Vancouver Canucks are targeting the New Jersey Devils center on the NHL trade market. Teams are calling about exiled Toronto Maple Leafs winger Nick Ritchie, and the Pittsburgh Penguins have a serious issue with the injury bug.

Seriously, the Penguins have bad luck.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Nearly every Penguins player has suffered an injury this season. Now, a coach is on the list, too. The recent snowstorm got assistant coach Todd Reirden. He shoveled his driveway, and the Pittsburgh Penguins coach needed knee surgery.

Are there no 12-year-olds willing to hustle for a few dollars?? Or do they insist on $20 an hour now?

Brock McGinn hasn’t played with talent quite like Evgeni Malkin. While you and I fixate on Malkin and become spectators, McGinn said he also has to fight the urge to grab a front-row seat with these Penguins lines.

I’ll show it to you on a live chat when it arrives in a few weeks. I’m pretty excited about it.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Sportsnet: Maple Leafs forward Nick Ritchie is on his way out of Toronto. Despite being bounced to the AHL, teams are calling. Jim Rutherford knows Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald–Fitz was one of Rutherford’s AGMs when Rutherford took the Penguins GM gig. Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Rutherford and new GM Patrik Allvin is looking to add to the Vancouver Canucks, and they’ve circled Pavel Zacha from the New Jersey Devils.

Montreal: The Hamburgler is now a Canadien. He wasn’t the biggest get on the NHL trade market, but Andrew Hammond is now a Montreal Canadiens goalie.

Erik Gudbranson scored a goal and had a whale of a fight with Islanders forward Russ Johnston. I thought you’d like to see it:

TSN: Five teenage Prince Edward Island players earned a 25-game suspension for hurling racial slurs at an opposing goalie both at the rink and at the hotel during a tournament.

It’s not just an American problem…

Boston: This time, the shoe is on the other foot. Ottawa Senators forward Auston Watson will have a hearing for interference during the game against the Boston Bruins.

Metro Division

Washington: It’s been a long ride for Daniel Sprong. From Amsterdam, through the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Washington Capitals

Philly: OK, dry your eyes. The losses are piling up like drunken Eagles fans. The Detroit Red Wings are the lastest to beat the Philadelphia Flyers.

NYI: Rapid reaction from beat writer Stefen Rosner in yet another loss by Barry Trotz and the New York Islanders.

CanesCountry: The Carolina Hurricanes also lost on Saturday. What the coach, DeAngelo, and Svechnikov had to say about the Hurricanes L.
