Penguins Call up Defenseman from WBS After Pettersson Injury
The Pittsburgh Penguins have called up right-handed defenseman Nate Clurman from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Clurman, 26, has never played a game at the NHL level. He was the Colorado Avalanche’s sixth-round pick in 2016 and has spent most of his professional career in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles. Since turning pro in 2020, he has also played 62 games in the ECHL.
Clurman played college hockey at Notre Dame after a few seasons in the USHL.
The right-handed defenseman is a stay-at-home defenseman with good size. He’s 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, according to most of the stat sheets. This season with WBS, he has five points, including one goal.
Clurman is likely a depth option as defenseman Marcus Pettersson is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. He is only the third right-handed defenseman on the Penguins roster; Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson are the others. Ryan Shea was slotted on the right side and has experience on the right with the Penguins despite being a lefty.
The call-up is in response to the injury to defenseman Marcus Pettersson, who left the game with a lower-body injury Saturday. Monday, Coach Mike Sullivan said Pettersson was out week-to-week. The team placed Pettersson on injured reserve on Tuesday.
The Penguins face the LA Kings Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena.
