If any Pittsburgh Penguins served an honest answer, it would be gritty winger Bryan Rust. The stock answer about a new season is that it is a fresh start. One can’t dwell on the past. Look forward.

A couple of the players delivered that answer on Thursday, as did head coach Mike Sullivan.

“They were all disappointed. Everybody takes a look back to try to learn through that experience. But at this point, we’re going to be a forward-thinking group. This is a new season with a new team,” coach Mike Sullivan stated.

Perhaps that is the simple truth. A clean slate?

Not quite. To confirm the mindset and thought process, Rust’s input was needed. In the mold of Brooks Orpik and Matt Cullen before him, Rust is a straight shooter.
