The first day of training camp is not a time typically when lasting lines are formed. Before anyone leaps from their chair in a full sprint to buy Dominik Kahun jerseys or t-shirts, we should note the Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t yet played a preseason game.

But they did play an intra-squad scrimmage Friday, and Kahun was dropped into the mix quickly. He skated beside Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel on what will be the Penguins top line. Coaches can use Camp for experiments or get a better look at players. Last September, coaches side saddled Crosby with Daniel Sprong. That concoction didn’t last long, nor was it meant to last.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now chatted with Kahun about the opportunity and his game. This training camp already has a different feel as the Penguins are seeking answers. There is a fresh air but also a serious vibe. Kahun will be one of the players who could help define the Penguins season. On the first day of school, he was all smiles, upbeat and positive.
