O, No Canada: Karlsson, Pettersson Get Bronze at Worlds

Pittsburgh Penguins defensemen Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson have earned bronze medals at the world championships in Czechia.

Sweden defeated Canada, 4-2, n the third-place game Sunday on the strength of three unanswered goals during the final period.

Karlsson scored perhaps the most important of those, beating Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington with a slap shot from the left side of the slot at 9:35 of third to tie the game, 2-2.

Karlsson, who served as Sweden’s captain for the tournament, finished the competition with six goals and five assists. Pettersson had three goals and two assists.

Penguins winger Michael Bunting played for Canada, working on a line with Dylan Cozens of Buffalo and Calgary’s Andrew Mangiapane. Bunting had one goal and three assists in the tournament.

No Penguins players were involved in the tournament title game, in which Czechia defeated Switzerland, 2-0.
