Pittsburgh Penguins, Patrick Kane, NHL trade rumors

Kyle Dubas continued rebuilding, reshaping, and remaking the Pittsburgh Penguins and their hockey operations with a heavyweight hire Wednesday. The latest on the unsigned RFAs, but one is coming off the board in Philly. There’s more momentum in the NHL rumor mill connecting Patrick Kane to the Detroit Red Wings. The Boston Bruins trade efforts might include an RFA, and Connor McDavid sent shockwaves through the sports world on Wednesday.

McDavid said, “We all want to win.”

Did you know that athletes really want to win? I surely didn’t! I’m kidding, but I’m reminded of the time Sidney Crosby was visibly stumped by a question. A local reporter asked Sidney Crosby, “It looked like you really wanted to win tonight?”

It took Crosby a moment or two to recalibrate and provide an answer.

I’m a bit off the grid today. I was sent for and have a couple of meetings in New York. There’s nothing like the world’s largest concrete jungle in 95-degree weather, but I’ll have a few slices for you.

No, it wasn’t Lefty Ruggiero who sent for me. At least, I hope not.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Hello, Doug Wilson. The Penguins added a former GM with a pretty good track record to mentor Kyle Dubas’s young front-office staff. Here’s the Pittsburgh Penguins story.

The Buffalo Sabres are tired of the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, and Penguins fans taking over KeyBank Arena. So, they’re blocking you. You may need to rethink if you want a Buffalo/Penguins road trip.

Steelers Now:

It’s Thursday — how much will the very well-paid 49ers DE Nick Bosa play in the Steelers game?

Najee Harris put it simply. Even though Harris lost the captainship, he said Kenny Pickett is the man.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

Not cool, baseball gods! Andrew Mcutchen’s season is essentially over. He has a partially torn Achilles. Here’s the full dish on Andrew McCutchen.

John Perrotto called it perfectly. The Pirates have ruined the fun with their decision on Paul Skenes.

A JHB trip-trip-triple and the Buccos beat Milwaukee, 5-4. Here’s the quickie Pirates recap.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Boston Hockey Now: Shane Pinto is an RFA that might price himself out of Ottawa. The Boston Bruins are still in desperate need of talent in the middle. Sources say the price will be HIGH, but could Pinto be a legit Bruins trade target?

Why Pinto? WHY NOT?! (Larry Kroger reference).

Detroit Hockey Now: Alex DeBrincat is in Detroit. Steve Yzerman is in Detroit. Sources say Patrick Kane could follow to the Detroit Red Wings.

Kane to Detroit could very well alter the Eastern Conference wild-card race. Keep an eye on that.

Philly Hockey Now: RFA Morgan Frost finally came to an agreement later Thursday on a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

TSN: Previewing the coming Stadium game, Connor McDavid said the Oilers are good and really want to win. I’m poking at McDavid for some fun, but it’s time for the Oilers to take the next step.

Sportsnet: Another team to keep an eye on this season is the Ottawa Senators. Youth, hunger, new ownership and the fans are vibing the changes.

And the latest on the top eight RFAs, the news, and NHL rumors around the league.
