The IIHF world championship tournament in Czechia is down to its final two games.

And the Penguins no longer have any players with a chance of picking up a gold medal.

Their last chance to be represented in Sunday’s championship game ended when Switzerland defeated Canada, 3-2, in a shootout Saturday. Winger Michael Bunting plays for the Canadians.

The other two Penguins players who reached the semifinals, defensemen Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson, lost their chance at a gold medal when Sweden was defeated by Czechia, 7-3.

Pettersson scored the goal that gave the Swedes a short-lived 2-1 lead in the opening period of their defeat.

Switzerland will take on Czechia in the gold medal game in Prague Sunday, after Sweden faces Canada in the bronze medal game there.
