Dan’s Daily: J.T. Miller Available on Trade Block, Penguins Luck Runs Out

Pittsburgh Penguins, Kris Letang, Tristan Jarry, NHL trade talk

Luck finally ran out on the Pittsburgh Penguins winning streak, and one of the worst teams in the NHL took advantage of the Penguins’ lackluster play. Evander Kane has a new home and Connor McDavid went to bat for his new teammate. Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand has become quite the social media cut-up, and he shredded the Phoenix/Arizona/Arizona State Coyotes. Will new Canucks GM Patrik Allvin put J.T. Miller on the NHL trade block, and will the New York Rangers go after him?

Also, Trevor Zegras did it again.

We’ll begin with Boston reporter Matt Kalman teeing up Brad Marchand, who swung away on the Arizona Coyotes.

In the immortal words of Michael Kelso to Eric Forman, BURN!

Pittsburgh Penguins:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Full analysis of Ron Hextall’s presser and his cryptic insights to the Penguins core, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin.

The Penguins lost to the Seattle Kraken, 2-1. A loss means the winning streak is over, and Penguins fans do not read anything about the game. We understand.

PHN Video: Get the breakdown and scoop from PPG. The PHN 5-Minute Penguins postgame wrap.

PHN+: Yeah, the Penguins had it coming. They’ve lived on the edge and been outplayed far too often over the last couple of weeks. A course correction is needed for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

NHL Trade Chatter, New & National Hockey Now:

Daily Faceoff: Former Penguins AGM Patrik Allvin is the Canucks GM. What’s first? And what about J.T. Miller–there’s a lot of interest in Miller, including the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, on the NHL trade market, but the price won’t be cheap.

Sources also confirmed to National Hockey Now that Miller could be had, and the price rivals that of Jakob Chychrun.

Sportsnet: Evander Kane agreed to terms with the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. Captain Connor McDavid went to bat for his embattled new teammate.

San Jose: Here’s the full story from all angles on the now-former San Jose Sharks winger.

Calgary Hockey Now: The Oilers may get stronger? How does this affect their chief rival, the Calgary Flames?

Question–It didn’t get as much press. Still, just after 5 p.m. EST, the NHL released the findings of their investigation, which found insufficient evidence that Kane knowingly crossed the Canadian border in defiance of COVID rules. If that was the basis for the San Jose Sharks contract termination, how can the Sharks legally terminate the deal and not get a massive salary cap hit if the player did nothing wrong?

Vancouver: Police have charged Jake Virtanen with sexual assault. Through his agent, the Vancouver Canucks player released a statement.

Montreal: On lighter news. Trevor Zegras did it again. Dude went full “Michigan” for a goal against the Montreal Canadiens.

The next time a player even thinks of trying that, the defenseman who unapologetically flattens the offending player will be my new favorite.

Washington: How do you get a warmup puck in D.C.? Ask? Beg? Nope, you offer Alex Ovechkin a Twix bar.

Detroit: Steve Yzerman was a guest on the TNT broadcast. As his team was getting hammered, the Detroit Red Wings GM had ’em rolling.
