Dan’s Daily: Penguins Kids on the Way, Tocchet Joins TNT as Analyst
The Pittsburgh Penguins Development Camp is just a few days away. The organization announced the schedule and the somewhat surprising allowance that it would be open to fans. We could see a monster contract for Brady Tkachuk while others players raced for minimum deals and PTOs.
Jason Dickinson is braced for manic Vancouver Canucks fans, and the Edmonton Oilers want to be elite now.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Development camp begins Saturday morning and is open to the fans. The scrimmage will be Tuesday. Here are the highlights and the camp roster.Â

Let’s get the contracts out of the way:
Tyler Bozak signed with St. Louis, one year, $750,000. If you’re wondering why not the Penguins–he lives in St. Louis, and the money was probably the same or similar to most offers, so why not stay home?
Former Pittsburgh Penguins center Mark Jankowski signed a PTO with the New Jersey Devils. He was one of three PTOs the Devils signed, including Jimmy Vesey and defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon.
Vesey is a surprise PTO, eh?
NHL.com: Rick Tocchet will do TV this year, or at least until a head coaching gig opens up. Tock will be part of the TNT lineup.Â
Florida: Goalie Spencer Knight began his NHL career with fanfare and nearly stole the starting job last season. The “rookie” will battle Sergei Bobrovsky for the Panthers net–“I need to prove myself.”
Ottawa Sun: Bruce Garrioch believes the Ottawa Senators have put a hefty eight-year, $64 million contract in front of Brady Tkachuk.Â
And it’s not signed yet?!
Sportsnet: The time is NOW for the Edmonton Oilers to make the hyperspace jump from a good team to elite. Can they?
Philly: The Pittsburgh Penguins arch-rivals will let the kids play together next week. The Philadelphia Flyers rookie camp will scrimmage the New York Rangers camp next week.Â
Boston: Boston Bruins great Fred Stanfield passed at age 77.Â
Toronto Sun: The Toronto Maple Leafs defense has been the weak point for most of Kyle Dubas’ tenure. Get ready for eight months of questions–Will Toronto let Morgan Reilly walk next summer because they can’t afford him?
Washington: In 2018-19, Washington Capitals decided to solidify their bottom-six forwards. You remember how good Jay Beagle and crew were against the Penguins–carrying that torch is Garnett Hathaway.Â
Detroit: One of the RFAs we were keeping an eye on–Givani Smith–finally signed with the Detroit Red Wings. Scratch another off the list. The Red Wings completed their roster.Â
Vegas: Hit the casinos–Steve Carp dishes on the over/under season points bets. If you look at the odds, bookmakers have the Pittsburgh Penguins in fifth in the Metro.
And…Norm MacDonald was FUNNY. He passed away on Tuesday at 61.
