Penguins Lineup Game 3 vs. Detroit; Who & How to Watch
The Pittsburgh Penguins have not yet won a preseason game, losing twice to the Buffalo Sabres. On Saturday, the Penguins will visit the Detroit Red Wings to begin their final week of the preseason.
Faceoff is just after 7 p.m. at Little Caesar’s Arena. Make sure to get some crazy bread and settle in for an interesting Penguins lineup against Detroit.
The Saturday lineup is a nice mix of potential NHL players and the second tier of the Penguins’ NHL lineup.
Who to Watch
A pair of players in direct competition for a Penguins roster spot will play Saturday: Rutger McGroarty and Jesse Puljujarvi. The wingers will get a couple of NHL-worthy centers in the lineup, too. Lars Eller will get a sweater, as will Drew O’Connor, who has slotted at center in the preseason.
Puljujarvi will have to build on the first preseason game in which he was physical and netted a hat trick. McGroarty has played in each of the previous two games as the team continues his NHL education.
A little side note: Avery Hayes, whom coach Mike Sullivan compared to Mats Zuccarello will also be in the lineup. The scrappy prospect on an AHL contract has opened a few eyes with his fearless play.
On the blue line, it won’t factor into the final NHL roster, but Owen Pickering will get another shot with NHL competition. In fact, he will play Sunday against Ottawa in the Kraft Hockeyville game, too.
The defensemen in competition for the back few spots–Ryan Graves, Ryan Shea, John Ludvig, and Sebastian Aho–will play Saturday. Mac Hollowell will also play Saturday and Sunday.
