PHN Penguins Live Chat: Futures of Malkin & Letang, Trade Wishlist, Lines w/ 71

Published

on

It’s another PHN live chat regarding all things Pittsburgh Penguins. Editor-in-Chief Dan Kingerski dives into the Penguins future as neither Kris Letang or Evgeni Malkin have yet signed a contract for next season. What could the future of the Penguins look like?

Kingerski also looked at the two areas the Penguins could or should address on the NHL trade market, and what could happen with both Jason Zucker and Kasperi Kapanen.

But no, we’re not sure where the jacket came from. Make to so subscribe to National Hockey Now’s YouTube page for notifications of live chats and exclusive video.

Happy Holidays from PHN–Enjoy!

Always great to hear/watch your live chats. You mentioned that if the Penguins wanted to bring back Malkin and Letang you felt they would have had more serious talks. Do you think it would be wise to maybe shop both at the trade deadline if that is their plans? Maybe Malkin could have some value to JR in Vancouver or Guerin in Minnesota (who could use a center) where we could land some good players? Example: Fiala, Greenway, Dumba (maybe as a 2nd pairing D, JT Miller, Garland. The deadline seems to have some inflated prices for players and it… Read more »

Let’s let #71 skate a few shifts before we start planning to ship him off to Vancouver! If he is going anywhere (and I hope he doesn’t–love me some Geno) my money would be on the Panthers in the summer. Not sure you can get farther from Vancouver in the NHL than Miami!

I had Flordia as a Potential destination until I looked at their cap space going into the offseason. I figured two GMs who are familiar with what he can bring to a team. Both teams have a lot of youth and could make an offer Hextall may see as too good to pass up for the future of the franchise.

Fair Enough but pretty sure he has a full no trade/movement clause or should at this point if he has any kind of decent agent. Yes Canucks have interesting prospects and JR, but pretty sure we won’t be adding another Brock to the roster or J.T. with Geno (or even Zucker w limited clause, lest you get 3 teams involved…)

I do agree with your thoughts though. I am excited to see Geno back on the ice. Just hoping we can lock him and Letang up long term. Just more so disappointed to hear we may not be able to.

Thanks, Frederick. I’ve wondered that. I don’t feel like I can write or discuss that specific possibility without setting the internet trade rumors on fire, and I’m not “there” yet.

Good show today. Some good insight and a few laughs also. I always enjoy the potential trade fodder. Merry Christmas people!

I wish i hadn’t missed this chat yesterday. Great content! Pay Letang and pay malkin, or rebuild. Neither of them are replaceable.

As far as trades go, I get the feeling the penguins (Hextall) is ride or die at the moment. The players they may want/need to trade have undesirable contracts and probably are hard to trade. Teams will ask for draft picks and Hexy seems to have an iron grip on those, as he should. It would have to be one of those “hockey trades”, our underperforming player for another teams under performer.

ERod should stay in the top six as long as he continues to produce!

This is what i would do:
