Things happen fast in NHL training camps. After three days of practices and scrimmages, they play their first preseason game Saturday night at Buffalo. And even before that, they have made their first roster cuts.

None of the initial cuts are surprising. The Penguins on Saturday afternoon reassigned six young players to their junior teams. They are:

Forward Justin Cloutier to the Soo Greyhounds, forward Cooper Foster to the Ottawa 67s, defenseman Caeden Carlisle to the Soo Greyhounds, defeneman Donovan McCoy to the Sudbury Wolves, defenseman Emil Pieniniemi to the Kingston Frontenacs, and goaltender Charlie Schenkel to the Soo Greyhounds.

Note that half of them are going to the Soo Greyhounds.

The cuts leave the Penguins with a roster of 64 players. Another round of cuts could come soon, based on the camp schedule. The team is expected to be down to two camp teams by Monday after using three (and a small fourth) so far.
