New NHL Divisions Get Corporate Sponsor Names
It’s not just players’ helmets that will be decorated with advertising during the 2020-21 NHL season. The league announced Tuesday that its four realigned divisions will each carry a corporate sponsorship namehttps://pittsburghhockey.nationalhockeynow.com/pittsburgh-penguins-helmet-sponsor-ppg-ups-support/
The Pittsburgh Penguins will play in the MassMutual NHL East Division, along with Buffalo, Boston, New Jersey, the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Washington. Those teams will play each other eight times during the 56-game season that begins next week and was shortened from 82 games because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For those interested and unaware, MassMutual is a mutual life insurance company.
The other divisions are the Scotia NHL North Division (all Canadian), the Honda NHL West Division and the Discover NHL Central Division.
Previously, the NHL announced that teams will be allowed to display corporate sponsor advertising on player helmets. The Penguins will sport PPG logos.
The NHL also announced that, available now, fans can vote for 2020-21 preseason all-division teams. Go to NHL.com/AllDivisionTeam to vote for six players in each of the realigned divisions – three forwards, two defensemen and a goaltender. Each team will have candidates at each position, as designated by the league.
One all-division team will be announced for each of the newly dubbed divisions before the Jan. 13 kickoff to the season. Those will be announced on all the NHL social media platforms.
