Dan’s Daily: NHL Trade Winds Blowing West, Circling Former Penguins for Vegas

Published

on

NHL trade, Pitttsburgh penguins, Evan Rodrigues hat trick

It’s been one month since free agency began, yet the offseason feels unfinished, if not entirely a few steel beams short of another Penn Avenue apartment complex. The NHL trade winds are swirling with a pair of Pacific Division teams. Connor Bedard has impressed everyone with his offensive handiwork. Could a former Pittsburgh Penguins winger be the perfect fit in Vegas and Steelers fans will get their first look at Acrisure Stadium.

Before you complain, it’s my Daily, and I’ll put the Steelers in the lede graf if I want (especially when the Penguins’ offseason has gone ice cold)!

I teased Dave Molinari’s story yesterday, but I’m worse with a calendar than being patient when a chatty cashier wants to gab with the person in the front of the line. Dave’s story will run this morning at 10:30 a.m. You’re going to like it.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Sports Now PGH

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: If you missed it, it’s gone viral. We’ve coined the term “The Curse of Fleury.” Whenever Marc-Andre Fleury is traded (it’s semantics if the Penguins traded Fleury or just traded assets to move him to Vegas. It’s a tongue-in-cheek curse), he leaves a wake. The latest curse could leave a trail back to the Metro Division and affect the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks preview from John Perrotto, including a free $50 bet with the DraftKings promo.

Steelers Now.com: Here’s the depth chart for the first preseason game, from the QB to the secondary. Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now (+): Perrotto draws a hard line. What exactly does “urgent improvement” mean for the Pittsburgh Pirates?

NHL Trade Talk, News  & National Hockey Now:

Ottawa TSN1200: Credit to our buddy Spector’s Hockey for posting this. Jakob Chychrun has been on the NHL trade block for months, though the Arizona Coyotes have not yet marked down the produce…

SJHN+: The San Jose Sharks have four NHL goalies, though maybe none at a high level. James Reimer could be the odd-man out, and sources confirmed to Sheng Peng what the Sharks want and why. This is a paywalled story, but if you subscribe to SJHN, I’ll give you a free PHN+ subscription. Sharks NHL trade chatter.

Vegas Hockey Now: The Golden Knights need a winger who can put the puck in the net. The Penguins are full up and unable to sign Evan Rodrigues. Former Boston Terriers teammate Jack Eichel is in Vegas. Should E-Rod also wind up with the Vegas Golden Knights?

Sportsnet: Connor Bedard has a “super elite shot.” The presumptive 2023 No. 1 overall pick is impressive at the World Juniors.

Boston Hockey Now: Former Penguins and Bruins (Flyers, Canadiens, and Hurricanes) winger Mark Recchi is rooting for new Bruins forward Pavel Zacha. Rex chatted with our boys in Boston. Boston Bruins upgrades.

There are too many imbalances for the NHL trade chatter to stay this quiet for much longer. It will be nice to see the Steelers in action. When was the last time you were excited to see the third-string quarterback?

I also want to thank everyone for their support. The Sports Now Group is quietly amassing millions of readers per month, just in Pittsburgh. If you subscribe to PHN+, you get access to Pirates and Steelers coverage, too: Subscribe to PHN+.
