Dan’s Daily: The Karlsson Saga Drags On, New Penguins Speak
The Pittsburgh Penguins provided some newsworthy interviews on Tuesday as the rest of the NHL news slowed to a crawl. Noel Acciari stick-tapped Brandon Tanev, Lars Eller wanted a short-term deal and a team that could win, while the Erik Karlsson NHL trade saga hit an impasse. Tim Tebow bought a hockey team, K’Andre Miller signed a bridge deal, and the Flyers PR team was caught on a hot mic making fun of a reporter’s question.
I’ll weigh in on the Flyers PR below the link to the story.
Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates:
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: First up, the Erik Karlsson trade saga hits an impasse.
Dave Molinari examined an important question — Does the 2023-24 Penguins roster have space for Sam Poulin?
A pretty cool moment. Brandon Tanev earned an assist on the Noel Acciari signing.
PHN+: Lars Eller has been part of the Capitals-Penguins rivalry. Why he’s now the Penguins third line center.
Steelers Now:
Dick Lebeau revealed his all-time favorite Troy Polamalu moment.
Ok, this one you might be forced to read. Could an Aaron Donald Steelers trade happen?
Pittsburgh Baseball Now:
Heavy on pitchers and college players. Here’s the Pittsburgh Pirates draft recap.
Our boy John Perrotto was chatting baseball with Mark Madden. You can listen here.
And because no one actually watches All-Star games, here’s what happened with Mitch Keller in his ASG debut.
NHL News & National Hockey Now:
San Jose Hockey Now: Sheng Peng picked my brain and others to come up with what he felt an Erik Karlsson to Penguins trade would look like. Here is his Sharks trade proposal.
NHL.com: K’Andre Miller signed a bridge deal with the Rangers for two years, $7.74 million.
NY Post: First, here’s what the Flyers’ PR said on the hot mic.
Philly Hockey Now: Since our reporter was on the call, he couldn’t hear the comments (the reporters on the call didn’t hear them). Here’s the Keith Jones, Flyers apology.
And I hate to do this to my own profession, but yeah, we all make fun of questions, especially when they get repetitive or boring. I once accidentally audibly groaned when a reporter asked a player after a big game, “It looked like you REALLY wanted to win?” It happens. We’re all guilty of asking those questions, too. It goes with the territory.
NYI Hockey Now: I’m afraid I have to disagree with Andrew Fantucchio upfront. You can decide for yourself. Fantucchio writes that Lou Lamoriello wasn’t to blame for missing out on Alex Debrincat. Check it out — New York Islanders’ opinion.
Florida Hockey Now: Players you may have forgotten were Florida Panthers.
Boston Hockey Now: GM Don Sweeney is tasking David Pastrnak with stepping forward into a leadership role. Time for the Boston Bruins sniper to take charge.
And a discredit to the national magazine that copied Jimmy Murphy’s story premise after publication.
Buffalo Hockey Now: The Sabres made a late charge and almost made the playoffs. As Mike Augello writes, no just making the playoffs cannot be the goal of the Buffalo Sabres.
Chicago Hockey Now: Chicago signed a few depth prospects for the organization, including a recently released Penguins prospect. Chicago Blackhawks news.
