Penguins Report Card: Sullivan Angry, ‘Got What We Deserved’ in Canadiens Loss (+)

MONTREAL — The Pittsburgh Penguins had victory in their hand. Despite being outplayed, outshot, and outchanced, the Penguins led the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 after two periods and had a one-goal lead in the final minutes.

However, the Penguins lost 3-2 in overtime.

Sullivan wasn’t happy with the point. His body language belied an irritation that a head coach would feel after his team committed uncounted turnovers, an innumerable number of failed clears or breakouts, and succumbed to a lesser-talented team.

“I don’t know if surprise is the right word. We didn’t have our best, that’s for sure. We got outplayed and got what we deserved,” said the Penguins coach Mike Sullivan.
