Penguins Postgame: Resounding Win, Can Pens Pull off a Miracle?

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Penguins raced to a resounding 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings Sunday at PPG Paints Arena, and in the process, raised the question of whether they can indeed pull off the miracle comeback and make the playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings have lost eight of nine. The New York Islanders have lost three of their last four. The Penguins have won two of their last three and played pretty well in most of those periods.

The Penguins trail the Red Wings by five points for the final playoff spot. The Penguins admitted to watching the standings every day now, and PHN Editor-in-Chief Dan Kingerski broke down the win, what the Penguins are starting to do well, and who is playing well.

Sunday, Lars Eller further asserted himself with another stellar performance. He scored his second power-play goal in two days, and his line with Reilly Smith and Valtteri Puustinen scored twice, too.

“I get open. (Lars) looks for me. I shoot,” Puustinen put it simply.

Smith scored the goal Sunday, as did Michael Bunting, Sidney Crosby, and Drew O’Connor added the empty net.
