The Pittsburgh Penguins will start off their exhibition schedule with a full house at PPG Paints Arena.

Not because the Columbus Blue Jackets — improved though they might be — are a major draw, but because that will be the Penguins’ “Free Game for Kids,” a preseason staple for over a decade.

The game is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. and will be the front-end of a doubleheader, with the nightcap scheduled for 7 p.m. at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

The Penguins plan to distribute over 18,000 tickets for the afternoon game to a number of youth organizations around the region.

Both games against the Blue Jackets will be streamed on the Penguins’ website, as will their home game against Detroit on Sept. 27. (Those games will be accessible only to those living in the local AT&T SportsNet region.)

AT&T SportsNet will show both of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ exhibition games against Buffalo, Oct. 1 at KeyBank Center and Oct. 7 at PPG Paints Arena.

The Penguins’ game at Detroit on Oct. 3 will not be available online or on TV, but will be carried on 105.9 FM, as will all of their other preseason contests. Josh Getzoff and Phil Bourque will handle the radio duties.
