Penguins Make Two Roster Cuts, Including Interesting Name
The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday assigned two players from training camp to their respective junior teams. One of the roster cuts is a player, in particular, fans might want to track for the future.
Forward Tanner Howe was returned to the Regina Pats, and defenseman Finn Harding to the Brampton Steelheads. Both were draft picks by the Penguins in June, Howe in the second round and Harding in the seventh round.
Howe, 18, has proven to be an intriguing prospect. He has a couple key elements to his game, including an offensive upside and his penchant for being a pest, including his net-front presence.
He signed an entry-level contract coming out of development camp in the summer — it will kick in when he turns pro — and was invited to Team Canada‘s summer showcase camp.
Howe was slated to participate with other Penguins youngsters in a prospect tournament before training camp. However, he sustained a facial injury and was scratched from those games. As of Wednesday, he was still practicing in training camp with a face shield. It’s not known how big a part the injury might have played in him not lasting longer in training camp.
