It’s a long-time phenomenon that those who win championships together tend to remain close. That’s certainly true for Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin and Parker Milner. They won two NCAA titles at Boston College.

Just think of the stories they could tell.

Or you can listen to some of them.

Milner, a minor-league goaltender in the Washington Capitals/Hershey Bears organization, has branched out into the journalism realm on the side. He has written restaurant reviews and food blogs, and now he has moved into hockey.

Milner and another former BC teammate, Brooks Dyroff, who has the technical abilities, joined earlier this year to launch Pregame Skate, an update on the hockey world with headlines, commentary and links that is emailed three times a week to subscribers.

The hook with Pregame Skate is that readers can catch up on the hockey world quickly and easily, “a Five Minute Major Update to Your Inbox,” as they call it. Clever, right?

Milner also describes it as “a hockey-related digital digest providing not only the headlines but also why they matter.”

Another part of Pregame Skate is a series of live chats – like a podcast, but live. Paid subscribers can dial in to listen and even ask guests real-time questions at the end.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. Eastern, Milner will be in Pittsburgh to do one of those chats – the eighth he has done — with Dumoulin from the defenseman’s house.

Which ought to be, you know, fun.

OK, it’s not likely to rival the Sidney Crosby podcast on Spittin’ Chiclets – what could for Penguins fans? – but it should be worth the listen.

Milner, a native of the Pittsburgh suburb Mt. Lebanon, and Dumoulin were offseason roommates in Boston after college and became fellow foodies. That is, they developed their interest in food, restaurants and cooking. Like, really developed their palettes.

There’s no shame in repeating a moniker from a previous story this author wrote on Milner – he and Dumoulin are partners in thyme.

“On the call, we will be discussing his offseason training and thoughts on the upcoming year,” Milner said of the chat. “We will also talk about a BC class trip we took to Portland earlier in the summer and will probably get into a short chat on wine and food, making this a fun opportunity for subscribers to get to know Brian a little better.”

Milner was Dumoulin’s best man at his wedding last summer and now is thrilled that Dumoulin and his wife, Kayla, are expecting their first child.

You can check out the Pregame Skate newsletter and subscribe to be able to dial in and listen to the Dumoulin chat here. If you can’t listen live, a podcast of the chat will be emailed to subscribers.
