Steelers Preview

Lost in the all the Big Ben mania Monday night was Roethlisberger playing poorly. He completed just 24 of 46 passes for 123 yards, giving him a paltry average of 2.7 yards an attempt.

However, the Steelers still found a way to win in large part because their 190 yards rushing was their highest total on the ground since 2017. Rookie running back Najee Harris had a career-best 188 yards on 28 carries.

The Steelers will likely have a harder time running the ball against the Ravens, who lead the NFL in rushing defense.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to miss his fourth straight game with an ankle injury. In last month’s meeting with the Steelers, 2019 NFL MVP passed for 253 yards and a TD with one interception.

Tyler Huntley is likely to again start in Jackson’s place. In last week’s 20-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the second-year pro was 20-of-32 passing for 197 yards with no touchdowns and one pick.

The Ravens figure to try to establish the run with Devonta Freeman, who ran for 72 yards last week. The Steelers rank 31^st among the league’s 32 teams in rushing yards allowed.

Expect the Steelers to give every chance to outside linebacker T.J. Watt to get to Huntley. Watt has 21 sacks, 1 ½ away from the NFL record set by Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001.

Watt took down Jackson 3 ½ times in the first meeting this year.

It might seem incomprehensible for a team with playoff aspirations to suffer a letdown in the final game of the season. However, it’s hard to see the Steelers raising their intensity level to the same height as Monday night.
