Trubisky will be making his Steelers’ debut at quarterback after beating out Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett for the job during training camp. The trio led the Steelers to a 3-0 record in the preseason during their spirited competition.

The Bengals went 1-2 in exhibition play after reaching the Super Bowl last season where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams.

Trubisky returns to a starting role in the NFL after backing up Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills last season.

In the first four seasons of his career from 2017-20, Trubisky made 50 starts for the Chicago Bears and they had a 29-21 record in those games. He also led the Bears to the playoffs twice and was selected to one Pro Bowl.

Trubisky was considered a disappointment for the Bears after being the second overall selection in the 2017 draft. However, the Steelers signed Trubisky to a two-year, $14-million contract as free agent in March.

Now the 28-year-old gets a chance to put his career back on track as the replacement for Ben Roethlisberger, who retired at the end of last season following an 18-year career that included two Super Bowl titles.

In the preseason, Trubisky completed 24 of 34 passes (70.6%) for 283 yards and two touchdowns without being intercepted. Coach Mike Tomlin tabbed Trubisky over first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett, who was 29 of 36 (80.6%) with 261 yards and three TDs with no picks.

Trubisky is the first quarterback other than Roethlisberger to start for the Steelers in Week 1 since Charlie Batch in 2010. Roethlisberger served a four-game suspension that season from the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow led his team to the AFC championship last season. However, Burrow did not play in the preseason after undergoing an appendectomy early in training camp.

Burrow set a franchise record last season when he threw for 4,293 yards. However, Burrow was also sacked an NFL-high 70 times last season, including being taken down 19 times in four postseason games.

The Bengals hope a revamped offensive line will try to keep Burrow upright more often. Left tackle Jonah Williams is the only returning starter.

The Bengals’ new-look line will have their hands full with Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, though. He was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 while tying the league record with 22 ½ sacks.

Burrow might have the best set of wide receivers in the league in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Chase also set a team record last season with 1,455 receiving yards while winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Steelers were last in the NFL in rushing defense last season when the Bengals’ Joe Mixon hurt them. In winning both meetings last year, Cincinnati rushed for 294 yards combined.

Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction

The Bengals supplanted the Steelers as the AFC North champions last year and certainly have the edge at quarterback with Burrow over Trubisky. However, Burrow could be rusty after missing most of camp, and Trubisky has the trust of his teammates, who voted him a team captain in his first season in Pittsburgh.

Look for the Bengals to win but the Steelers to sneak under the number.
