Dan’s Daily: Ovechkin Calls Wilson Suspension a Joke; Penguins News

NHL trade, Tom Wilson suspension, Alex Ovechkin, NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins

In the final installment of the latest Washington Capitals Tom Wilson saga, we have the exciting conclusion to Wilson’s cheap shot on Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo. Alex Ovechkin lambasted the decision to suspend Wilson. The Pittsburgh Penguins kept pace in the East Division playoff race with a structured win. And on the NHL trade market, we have additional teams interested in Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel.

Ovechkin is having a love-hate relationship with the NHL this season. Remember that in the first week of the season, the NHL placed him into the COVID protocol because he and a few teammates gathered in one of their Pittsburgh hotel rooms. His wife subsequently used Instagram to express her dismay.

Sportsnet: Tom Wilson will not appeal his seven-game suspension. Ovechkin torched the decision as a “joke.”

Boston Hockey Now: If you’re wondering, Brandon Carlo is out of the hospital and feeling better.

That should be a headline, right?

PHN+: Our weekly “Off the Record” was all about NHL trade talk. Our investigative work found two more teams interested in Jack Eichel, and the whispers are increasing around Sam Bennett again. Read the “Off the Record” with NHL trade chatter here.

To the Pittsburgh Penguins…

Is there ANYONE reading this that could have been suspended from their occupation 5 times in 8 years . . . and still be employed . . . and who will be welcomed back by his co-workers at the conclusion of the latest suspension? Pure and simple . .. the league and the players are OK with this sort of behavior. They could stop it all in a single announcement that would take no more than 15 minutes. No one will ever admit to that unspoken approval, but life has taught me that actions do speak louder than words. One… Read more »

Wilson should have been suspended for Janko hit. If he had, then one less player in the hospital with likely brain injury. Wilson should have been forced to change his game to fit the modern game 3 suspensions ago. If he had, then no hit on Janko and once less possible brain injury. I love hockey but every time I see Wilson on the ice I worry about the health and safety of the rest of the players out there. It doesn’t need to be like that. He could be a solid player without being a goon/cheap shot artist. The… Read more »

Ovechkin is a joke too. He sneaks up on defenseless players quite often without penalty. Not surprised that he would side with Wilson when they are partially of the same ilk.

Ovechkin should have just said no comment and left it there. Especially if he can’t set aside bias.

Wilson is a cheap shit piece of shit. He is trash and doesn’t respect the game. He should be kicked out of the league. That will teach his braindead ways.
