Watch: Penguins D Justin Schultz on His First Game Back

Pittsburgh Penguins Justin Schultz

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz played just his 28th game of the season. The Penguins typical second pairing defenseman played sheltered minutes in his return as he was paired with fellow right-handed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel on the Penguins third pair. Schultz talked about his return and missing that glorious scoring chance on his first shift.

“Wish I could have buried it,” Shultz laughed.

Schultz played a healthy 17 minutes. It was easy to laugh after the Penguins survived a comeback to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in OT at PPG Paints Arena on Friday. Shultz didn’t register a point, but his return to the lineup was yet another step forward for the previously injury-ravaged Penguins.

Before the All-Star game and bye week, the Penguins got Sidney Crosby back in their lineup. Schultz followed Friday night. Nick Bjugstad and Brian Dumoulin should follow at different points in February.

“It felt good. Everything went good,” Schultz said of his first game back. Watch the full Penguins locker room interaction with Justin Schultz, below.
