It wasn’t a great start to negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA. Out of the gate, the owners asked to renegotiate the four-month-old CBA and escrow limits. Oops. The NHL, NHLPA, and 16-member player committee are working towards the next NHL return. Also in the daily links, the Pittsburgh Penguins top prospect put on a show, the Boston Bruins are back on the NHL trade market and the Florida Panthers hired an assistant GM that some of you (and I) know personally.

We’ll start with the players who called the first NHL offer a “non-starter.” In fact, it sure seemed the players were a little riled up after the owners asked to renegotiate the escrow holdback in the CBA. Not a great start to the NHL Return to Play negotiations (Sportsnet)

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Sam Poulin had a day in Day 1 of Team Canada’s 28-day bubble training camp. Poulin scored this beauty of a goal:

Poulin has been impressive this season. His time in the Pittsburgh Penguins training camp 2.0 in July appears to have furthered his game. In fact — we did a new video scouting report. Yes, there is a lot different about Poulin, and that’s a good thing (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

The Florida Panthers named Brett Peterson as their AGM on Tuesday. Peterson is thought to be the first Black assistant GM in NHL history (Florida Hockey Now)

Some of you may remember or know “Chubs” Peterson (a nickname derived from Happy Gilmore) from his days with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL. I do! Before I did a national radio show, and before I returned to cover the Pittsburgh Penguins, I was a play-by-play announcer.

I wish I could tell you the story of the Dayton, OH hotel, the exasperated staff, and how I scared Brett because he thought I was the coach doing a curfew check. Nope, I was having a good time, too. Congrats, Chubs!

The Boston Bruins have been spurned in their attempts for several big names. They may be back on the NHL trade market, using their top defenseman prospect as bait (BHN+)

Cody Glass was a highly debated first-round draft pick. Too high, too low? Everyone had opinions, and no two thoughts were the same. It’s time for Glass to shine in Vegas (Vegas Hockey Now)

Joe Biden’s campaign leased the San Jose Sharks team plane for the campaign. So, whose seat did Joe Biden sit in? (San Jose Hockey Now)

Seriously, I’m jealous of the stories Sheng Peng has unearthed during this pandemic. Great stuff.

Oh, those Colorado Avalanche reverse retro jerseys… FLYING off the shelves (Colorado Hockey Now)
