Pittsburgh Penguins, Jason Zucker
Evgeni Malkin greets Jason Zucker in the locker room after Zucker suffered a scary injury

Jason Zucker was a pesky forechecker with speed and tenacity in the Pittsburgh Penguins Round One loss to the New York Rangers. He amassed hits and was a visible presence. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that Zucker again missed a significant portion of the season with an injury. He played only 41 games this season and scored only 17 points (8-9-17). Trainers had to devise a seating position for him on the bench so he could play, beginning in Game 3 of the playoffs.

“You should see the the the whiteboard they have in there of trying to figure out some sort of algorithm to keep me on the ice. It was a crazy year with that. But we truly were grinding every day, trying to stay healthy,” Zucker said. “And for this summer…I’m not going to change anything. I mean, I felt ready and prepared coming into training camp. This injury happened later and was something that we just kept fighting through.”
