The Pittsburgh Penguins are not the only team searching for a third-pairing right defenseman. Our sister site, San Jose Hockey Now has been covering a similar situation, in which many of the same names floated past the San Jose Sharks.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford has about $1.1 million left to spend, assuming a small cushion for short-term recalls. However, Rutherford could also stash several of his bottom-six forwards in the AHL to free up more capital.

Sheng Peng spoke with three NHL scouts who provided their analysis of the UFA RHD defensemen, who are still on the market. Spoiler: None gave positive marks to Daley. It was a consensus that Daley has lost more than a step.

Scouts analyzed Daley, Madison Bowey, Jan Rutta, Yannick Weber, Korbinian Holzer, Deryk Engelland, Tim Heed, Michael Stone, Slater Koekkoek, Cody Goloubef, and Christian Folin. All of whom are in the Penguins price range. Which are worthy?
