Dan’s Daily: Canadiens May Not Match; Story of Mobsters Buying a Team

Published

on

NHL trade, pittsburgh penguins, mobsters,

At some point in the next few weeks, things have to start moving again. The NHL trade market has been ground to a halt like fog rolling in at JFK, though we have the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes drama, which could unfold like only one other RFA offer sheet in NHL history. And the hockey community had an emotional send-off for Jimmy Hayes, who passed away last week at just 31-years-old.

It was a proper goodbye for Hayes as hockey players lined the streets to raise their sticks.

Philly: And Hayes’ brother, Kevin, told the story of Jimmy taking a terminally sick child into the Bruins locker room to hang out. He told more stories, too, in a wonderful and tearful eulogy.

I’m not crying. You’re crying.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: In case you missed it, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon donned Team Canada jerseys to shoot another Tim Horton’s commercial.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: According to Elliotte Friedman, “there is a legitimate chance” that Montreal doesn’t match the Carolina Hurricanes’ offer sheet to Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

Friedman also mentioned the same possibility we wrote about on Sunday night–the recouped assets could help Montreal get serious in the Jack Eichel NHL trade sweepstakes.

Washington: Remember that time a famous mobster bought a UHL team for his son?? I didn’t know the story either, but Netflix released a new docu-series, and Sammi Silber has the story from the horse’s (head’s) mouth.

Sammi is killing it in D.C. We are happy to have that girl on board!

Buffalo News: Mike Harrington reports the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs could have an outdoor game in the works for Hamilton, ON. March 13 is the target date. Now that would be something.

If you’ve ever slid across the Skyway bridge in Hamilton during the winter, you know why March is better.

The Athletic: Jeremy Rutherford believed the Carolina Hurricanes were interested in Vladimir Tarasenko–and may still be, pending the Kotkaniemi outcome–but the Islanders’ secretive games cloud the NHL trade front for Tarasenko.

NHL: Who is the best RW in the NHL, Patrick Kane, Nikita Kucherov, or Mitch Marner?

Detroit: The Detroit Red Wings made changes to their scouting staff, including replacing a 26-year-veteran. A former Pittsburgh Penguins center is one of the replacements.

Boston: So which Bruins will make the 2022 Olympic teams?

San Jose: Ivan Chekhovich was waived, and now he’s headed to the KHL’s Torpedo.

Vancouver: So…which Vancouver Canucks will be wearing their country’s colors in Beijing?

I still don’t know why the world sees fit to hand an oppressive communist dictatorship the Olympics. But that’s me. I enjoy my fellow humans alive, free, and able to play video games for more than one hour a night.
