Dan’s Daily Links: Rumors Around Boston, Penguins Scout Chicago
Today seems a good day to take a breath from the Matt Duchene NHL trade rumors as they’re about to become suffocating. Duchene is the big fish and one of the biggest fish on the trade market in recent memory. So, it appears the Boston Bruins have kids to give to make something big happen. The Pittsburgh Penguins scouts are checking out active teams.
Darren Dreger said Boston doesn’t want to deal one of their young players but is going for a big move. It’s about “now” for Boston (Nichols on Hockey)
The Chicago Blackhawks are now just one point out of a playoff position. Yet they could be active–their trade bait list is seven deep (Chicago Tribune).
The Penguins had a scout to check out the Chicago vs. Ottawa shootout. The Penguins could be kicking tires for another defenseman pending the severity of Olli Maatta’s injury.
Coming up at 8 a.m., Pittsburgh Hockey Now will publish our Penguins Trade Bait list.
The Vancouver Canucks are also in the logjam of playoff hopefuls who aren’t necessarily playoff worthy. Rental players are off the table (Vancouver Sun)
Derick Brassard to Dallas? That would make sense as PHN was able to report Dallas was after Brassard earlier this season and Florida is…Florida. Scott Burnside lays out six trade potentials (The Athletic).
Dallas would be a good fit for Brassard and he would be a good fit for them. Brassard and his intensity would be a good fit for Dallas, too.
The Artemi Panarin trade market—reality vs. want. (Union and Blue)
I’d be shocked if Columbus deals Panarin. At this point, they’re using him as their own rental. If they were to deal him, they could easily find themselves on the bottom side of the Penguins/Capitals/Hurricanes gaggle and out of the playoffs.
