The Pittsburgh Penguins head out to Western New York to take on the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

Let’s take a look at this showdown in our Penguins vs. Sabres betting preview with odds, picks and player prop predictions.

Penguins vs. Sabres Betting Pick

The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a 4-2 victory on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers. Forward Kasperi Kapanen continued his recent surge of productive play by scoring his fourth goal over his last five games,  while Sidney Crosby picked up a goal and an assist in the victory.

Pens starter Tristan Jarry stopped 33 of 35 shots to record his seventh win in his last nine starts. Pittsburgh now looks to continue its winning ways tonight against a Buffalo squad that is spiraling out of control on a descent to the bottom of the league standings.

Losers of eight straight contests, the Sabres are giving up goals in bunches. With starting goalie Linus Ullmark on injured reserve, net duties have been assumed by the inconsistent Carter Hutton and unproven rookie Jonas Johansson.

Buffalo jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes on Tuesday in Philadelphia, but the Flyers rallied back to send the game into overtime, eventually winning it in the shootout by a 5-4 final.

Forward Sam Reinhart scored twice, pushing his goal total to 11 on the season, but with star Jack Eichel out with an upper body injury, and now rumors growing of Taylor Hall and Eric Staal asking for trades, the Sabres are a mess.

Bets We Like With an Penguins Win

Penguins Team Total OVER 3.5 Goals (-115, BetMGM)

This Pittsburgh offense is starting to get hot, scoring 21 goals over its last five games. Now, taking on a porous Buffalo defense that has allowed three or more goals in nine of their last ten contests, including exactly five goals in four consecutive games, I like for the Penguins to score early and often in this evening’s showdown.

Bets We Like With a Sabres Win

Sam Reinhart to Score a Goal Anytime (+300, FOX Bet)

Leading the Sabres with 11 goals on the year, the 25-year-old Reinhart has been the only real scoring threat for Buffalo, especially in the absence of Eichel. If the Sabres want to break their eight-game losing streak, they will need at least one score from their top forward tonight.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

First Period OVER 1.5 Goals (-143, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Pittsburgh is on a four-game streak of going over the total in the first period. Pair a red-hot offense against a club in Buffalo that has struggled to stop the puck against anyone recently, and I like for this play to cash in.

Penguins vs. Sabres Prediction

This is a tale of two squads going in completely opposite directions.

Pittsburgh is gaining strength and momentum as the second half of this shortened season moves along, while the Sabres are looking at another disappointing last place. I like for the Pens to blow out Buffalo in a convincing 6-2 rout.
