It is final confirmation that Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman John Marino is banged up. On Tuesday afternoon, the Penguins placed Marino on IR retroactive to March 7. The Penguins also made a few corresponding roster moves in advance of the Penguins game Tuesday night against the Boston Bruins, according to GM Ron Hextall.

Marino and Jared McCann skated on Tuesday morning. Head coach Mike Sullivan said Marino was a game-time decision.

Penguins forward Jared McCann also skated Tuesday morning and is also a game-time decision.

The Penguins recalled forward Frederick Gaudreau from the taxi squad, and forward Radim Zohorna has been re-assigned to the taxi squad from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

From the Pittsburgh Penguins release:

Gaudreau, 27, has spent the first half of the 2020-21 campaign split between Pittsburgh’s taxi squad and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. With WBS, he’s suited up for six games, registering one goal, three assists, four points, and a plus-3.

The 6-foot, 179-pound forward has also played in 84 career NHL games, all with the Nashville Predators, recording three goals, five assists, and eight points. Gaudreau has played in eight career NHL playoff games, all during the Predators run to the 2017 Stanley Cup Final versus the Penguins. In 286 career AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals and WBS, Gaudreau has tallied 78 goals, 98 assists and 176 points.

Zohorna, 24, has appeared in 11 games for WBS this season, recording a team-high nine points (3G-6A). The 6-foot-6, 233-pound Zohorna is playing in his first professional season in North America after signing with the Penguins as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2020. He has played the last six seasons in the Czech Republic’s top professional league, the Czech Extraliga, split between BK Mlada Boleslav and HC Kometa Brno.

A native of Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic, the left-handed shooting forward is a two-time Czech Extraliga Champion, both with HC Kometa Brno in 2017 and 2018. He has recorded 28 goals, 27 assists, and 55 points in 173 career Extraliga games.
